How To Set and Achieve Your Goals

This is an excerpt from my note on 'How to Set and Achieve Your Goals' presented at the "Be-Inspired Conference", Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
I'll start with this: You can't have yearly, monthly or daily goals if you don't have a Life Goal. In other words, if your life has no direction, if you've got no vision for your Life, your monthly or daily goals will be ineffective. You need to have a Vision for your Life before you can properly set goals.
So, What are Goals? Goals are simply targets or ends you work towards achieving. There are several types of goals;
Career goals Spiritual goals Relationship goals Financial goals Health goals And many others.
Why You Should set Goals
1. Goals keep you motivated. It makes life inspiring and interesting. They give you a reason to wake up early in the morning, get outta bed and hit the road. The bigger your goals and the clearer they are, the more excited you become about achieving your…

You are God's Masterpiece

Image
In the art world, experts are always on the lookout for fakes and imitations. To the novice, a counterfeit can be mistaken for a masterpiece. However, an expert, someone who knows what to look for, can easily identify an original masterpiece.
Merriam Webster's Dictionary defines a Masterpiece as "a work done with extraordinary skill; especially : a supreme intellectual or artistic achievement". A Masterpiece is simply the best of a person's work. The climax of an artistic endeavor.

After God spent five days speaking the worlds into form, creating the universe, He prepared for the ultimate of His grand and divine design - You. When God created man, unlike anything else He had made, He made man unique and special. He made man in His own image.
"God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, ........." - Genesis 1:26.
God created us in His own image in that He endowed us with Spiritual, Intellectual and Moral liken…

Sharpen your Axe: How Personal Development Can Simplify Your Life

Image
"If I had six hour to chop down a tree, I'd spend the first four hours sharpening the axe." - Abraham Lincoln
An axe is a cutting tool that consists of a heavy edged head fixed to a handle with with the edge parallel to the handle that is used especially for felling trees and chopping wood (Merriam Webster Dictionary). The axe is considered one of the most effective traditional tools for cutting trees. To effectively carry out this duty for which it is made, the edge of the axe must be well sharpened so it could cut through the wood with ease.
In this context, your axe is the potential, gifts, talents and resources available to you as an individual. Your axe is the tool available to you to solve any problem. This could be your degrees, talents, inherent potential, knowledge or any other thing at your disposal.
"If the ax is dull,  And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength;  But wisdom brings success" - Ecclesiastes 10:10 An axe, when it…

5 Tips to Help You Plan a Successful 2018

Image
In a few days, the year will be over. At this time of the year, it is quite usual for many individuals to start planning the next year if they haven't done so already. Firms and corporate bodies from all walks of life often set aside quality time to do some thinking and reevaluate their businesses and performance over the year. Planning is quite important for individuals as it is for multinational companies. It helps to chart a course for the next year and determine where and how efforts and resources will be directed. It also provides individuals and corporations a roadmap for decision making in the new year.
So here are five tips to help you Plan a successful new year.
1. Know the current state of your Life or Business. The first thing we need to do when planning for the next year is to take some time to think and reflect on what we've done so far and what we've achieved. We should review our goals and measure our achievements properly. We are then able to point out …

We're Empowered to Empower Others

Image
One important truth we must all come to terms with in our world today is that as long as we're alive, we'll always be confronted by one challenge or the other. It is childish and immature to think or believe that life, at any given time will be trouble-free. It is then imperative that we understand that we face challenges so we can become stronger and grow to be who God created us to be.
However, God promises to strengthen and comfort us when we go through trials. He promised to be with us when we go through any storm or fire.
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you" Isaiah 43:2
When God does, He then expects us to extend the comfort and strength to others. We are to Empower Others with what God gives us. Just as we know that we can't give what we don't have, we are expected to pass on to o…

The Importance of a Principles-centred Life

Some few weeks back, a friend told me a story that illustrates the importance of living a principles-centred life. He was invited by a friend to try out something he felt he shouldn’t be involved in. ordinarily, he knew it’d be a wrong decision if he gives in, however, he found it difficult to make the right decision. This, I realized, was because he didn’t have a standard to measure his decisions in that area. Prior to that time, he simply held a belief as per what is the right thing to do but no strong moral conviction towards it. He then concluded by saying something really important “I decided there won’t be a next time”. He probably made this statement having firmly resolved to stick to a strict moral code whenever he’s faced with such decision.  Most people live almost every area of their lives doing the same thing – they just allow the social norms to dictate their beliefs and values.
Principles are like foundations upon which we build our actions and reactions. They are what…

Character Is Everything

Image
Think of character as having the benefits of a house’s foundation during a huge storm. If the foundation is strong enough, it will stand firm when the waters come. But when it is weak, the house will come down crumbling even at the slightest wind. That’s why it’s important that we develop a good character. It is often said that “hard work will take you to the top but character will keep you there”.
"Many succeed momentarily by what they know  Some succeed temporarily by what they do Few succeed permanently by who they are”
What then is character?  The Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary defines it as “the particular combination of qualities in a person that makes them different form others”. In the simplest terms, character is “who you are”, nothing more nothing less. It is often widely described as who you are when no one else is watching. Your character is what defines you. In other words, your true value can be more than what your degrees, reputation and even your pay chec…
